Ajax and Chelsea have officially agreed to a transfer that will send Hakim Ziyech to London. Here’s why the Morocco international is a dream signing for the Blues.

In Lampard‘s first season in charge of Chelsea, the London-based club have been one of the Premier League‘s more exciting teams. Football fans from around the world can purchase Premier League Football Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

Armed with a disciplined defense, a midfield capable of controlling games, and a few dangerous young players in the attack, the Blues look like a team on the rise over the next handful of years with a tactically competent and composed manager running the show.

But something was missing. Although Chelsea has a box-to-box midfielder in N’Golo Kante, two orchestrators in Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, a future star winger in Christian Pulisic, and an elite striker in Tammy Abraham, they were missing a dynamic playmaker.

Willian, in some ways, is that player, but he is more of a technically-proficient role player than someone who can consistently create chances in the final third.

The word replacement gets thrown around haphazardly, but Chelsea was indeed looking for someone who could replace Eden Hazard in one sense of the word.

They were not looking for a one-to-one replacement for one of the world’s most effective dribblers and all-around attackers, nor were they necessarily looking for a direct replacement at the left-wing position.

Chelsea Pace Winger

In Pulisic, they purchased the pace winger who can grab goals as part of their plan of a future without Hazard. Yet they still needed the attacking player who could create the chances and killer passes, replacing that aspect of Hazard’s production.

In Hakim Ziyech, Chelsea has found the best possible answer. On Thursday it was announced that the London club has a deal in place to buy Ziyech from Ajax at the end of the season.

Chelsea will pay 40 million euros, a fee which could potentially rise to 44 million, for Ziyech next summer.

It is a more than a reasonable fee for a 26-year-old playmaker in his prime who orchestrated one of the Champions League’s best Cinderella stories last season.

Ziyech was the true star of that Ajax team. In all competitions last season, Ziyech had 19 goals and 16 assists, mirroring Eden Hazard’s 18 goals and 17 assists between the Premier League and Champions League.

This season, Ziyech has been just as dangerous for the Amsterdam club, even if he’s flying under the radar. He has six goals and 12 assists with 2.7 dribbles per game and a jaw-dropping 3.7 key passes per game, per WhoScored.com.

Almost unbelievably, Ziyech is as good at setting up his teammates as he was last season, showing that his breakout 2018-19 campaign, aided by the spotlight of Ajax’s Champions League run, was no fluke.

Premier League: Why Chelsea has a dream to sign Ziyech
Premier League: Why Chelsea has a dream to sign Ziyech

Jadon Sancho or Ziyech

Chelsea could have pursued the younger Jadon Sancho instead of Ziyech. With his ridiculous agility, acceleration, and tricks, Sancho is perhaps the only player in the world capable of being directly compared to Hazard.

Last season, Sancho had 13 goals and 15 assists between the Bundesliga and Champions League, and he already has 14 goals and 15 assists in all competitions this season.

The problem with Sancho is that he would have cast Chelsea three times the price that Ziyech did. Sancho is the world’s most coveted young player after Kylian Mbappe, but Chelsea is on a tight budget.

Splurging nine figures on Sancho was simply out of the question. Ziyech, though, is a relatively inexpensive attacking player who can play at a world-class level.

And more importantly for Chelsea, he is a better pure playmaker. Position ally, Ziyech lines up as a right-winger, but he plays like a No. 10.

Ziyech can fluidly roam across the pitch, switching flanks or playing through the middle, wreaking havoc on opposition defenses.

Chelsea Young Players role

On a team with young, hard-working, athletic players like Pulisic, Abraham, Mount, and Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech can replace Willian as a versatile veteran playmaker with even greater technical qualities and final product.

As underrated as Willian is, he only has four goals and four assists this season; Chelsea needed a more threatening player in the final third to bring it all together.

Ziyech has led a young, talented team to the verge of Champions League glory, and he will join a team with more talent and resources as he enters the prime of his career.

Premier League: Why Chelsea has a dream to sign Ziyech
Premier League: Why Chelsea has a dream to sign Ziyech

For 40 million euros, Chelsea could not have possibly purchased a more productive, versatile, skillful, and consistent player.

Ziyech can coexist with Mount, Abraham, and Pulisic, bringing out the best in those around him as a moveable chess piece and table-setter for Lampard in the upcoming, critical 2020-21 campaign.

In games that will shape Frank Lampard’s first season as Blues lead trainer, his side faces Manchester United just as Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and Bayern Munich in the Champions League inside the following fortnight.

Then early next month there’s the small matter of an FA Cup fifth-round meeting against Jurgen Klopp’s seemingly invincible Liverpool side.

Speaking of Bayern, they looked to have been facing somewhat of an injury crisis following confirmation that winger Ivan Perisic would certainly miss the game in west London.

This was confirmed by the Bundesliga giants last week ahead of their DFB Pokal tie against Hoffenheim.

Chelsea Club official site Statement

A statement via the club’s official website reads: “FC Bayern will be without Ivan Perisic for the time being. The 31-year-old Croatia international sustained a fracture to his outer ankle during training on Tuesday.

The ankle has to be screwed together. It will take around four weeks for the injury to heal, and then he will begin recovery training,” confirmed Bayern coach Hansi Flick.

It is not easy for us at this moment in time because Ivan has been in very good form, and his dynamism and experience have helped us a lot.

Perisic joins long-term absentee Niklas Sule as the two players who would not feature in west London and the latter would not play in the return game either as he is not probable back till May at the first.

Meanwhile, Perisic might be back for the second limb at the Allianz Arena providing he undergoes no set-backs in his retrieval. And it is not all doom and gloom on the injury front for Bayern.

During the goalless draw with RB Leipzig on Sunday evening, both Lucas Hernandez and Kingsley Coman made their returns as second-half substitutes in the top-of-the-table clash.

Bayern faces Koln and Paderborn before their trip to the capital which gives the French duo even more time to prove their fitness to head Coach Hansi Flick.

Robert Lewandowski, the leading scorer in the Champions League this season with 10 goals – played the entire 90 minutes, while Philippe Coutinho, who is a familiar face to Premier League followers, played the final half time on Sunday.

Bayern Munich get double injury boost

Munich’s goalless appeal with RB Leipzig on Sunday sundown carried about a few positives for Hansi Flick’s side.

Firstly, they remain top of the Bundesliga table by one point as Timo Werner’s miss from close range in the second half proved costly as a win for the visitors would have seen them regain the top spot.

Secondly, Bayern stretched their unbeaten run to nine games across all competitions which means they are coming into form at just the right time as they target a treble.

Last but not least, and maybe most importantly, they were able to welcome back two main players from damage in the second half.

Lucas Hernandez made his long-awaited return to action as a replacement for Jerome Boateng just after the hour mark. This was his first appearance in 110 days as he last featured in the 3-2 victory away to Olympiacos on October 22.

Then five minutes before the end Leon Goretzka made way Kingsley Coman. The French winger suffered a nasty knee injury against Tottenham Hotspur in Bayern’s final Champions’ League group game a couple of months ago and was able to get a few minutes under his belt.

With the Bundesliga giants facing Chelsea in the last-16 of Europe’s elite club competition over two legs, having Hernandez, as well as Coman, fit again is certainly a double boost for their chances of reaching the quarter-final.

Chelsea was back to winning ways at the weekend as they overcame Hull City in the FA Cup. Football fans around the world can buy online Premier League Tickets to enjoy its stunning performances.

Their reward is a fifth-round tie against either Shrewsbury Town or Liverpool, with a replay coming up between the two sides. That tie is slated to take place in early March as for the first time ever fifth-round ties have been switched to the midweek slot because of the Premier League’s inaugural winter break.

Up next though is the big game at the King Power Stadium against Leicester. But there will still be one eye on transfers. Deadline day is fast approaching and Chelsea is yet to make a signing despite links to the likes of Jadon Sancho, Ben Chilwell, and Krzysztof Piatek.

But all signs are pointing towards it being an exciting final week of January for the Blues and head coach Frank Lampard.

Edinson Cavani boost

Good news for Chelsea in their bid to try and land Edinson Cavani in January. The striker apparently has his heart set on a move to Atletico Madrid before the end of the deadline. But if the Atletico chief’s words are anything to go by, that does not look likely.

Krzysztof Piatek bid

West Ham has reportedly made a £30m bid for Krzysztof Piatek. The Milan striker has been linked with Chelsea and Spurs in January, but Football Insider state that the Hammers are now trying to sign the attacker.

However, West Ham wants to do a similar deal to Spurs, in signing the Poland international on an initial loan deal that will become permanent in the summer – which has so far proven a sticking point with the Serie A side, who want a permanent deal in January.

Whether or not West Ham goes onto sign the striker is up for debate, but one thing that is not is his goalscoring ability. The French striker has been hoping to seal a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer after failing to earn a place in Frank Lampard’s team.

And former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been keen to bring Giroud to Milan in the January transfer window – but one thing was standing in his way.

Chelsea host London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night in the Premier League with both sides looking to bounce back from their poor weekend results Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from their shock defeat to Newcastle on Saturday, as they face London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening. Football fans around the world can buy online Premier League Tickets to enjoy its stunning performances.

For Arsenal, Mikel Arteta will be hoping that he can guide his side to a significant win against the Blues after the Gunners blew a one-goal lead against Sheffield United in their last game.

So, what will the final score be at Stamford Bridge? And, what XI will both clubs go for?

We used FIFA 20 to predict the outcome of this midweek Premier League clash between Chelsea and Arsenal.

Chelsea vs Arsenal simulated on FIFA 20

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 20 but didn’t select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a unique prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to world-class, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Chelsea could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Kepa; James, Zouma, Tomori, Azpilicueta; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Willian, Abraham, Pulisic.

We predict that Arsenal could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Leno; Maitland-Niles, Mustafi, David Luiz, Saka; Torreira, Xhaka; Martinelli, Ozil, Pepe; Lacazette.

In the first-half, Arsenal put in a rather unfamiliar away performance, delivering a masterclass in counter-attacking football.

Chelsea had huge amounts of possession, with Jorginho and Kovacic controlling the tempo of the game, but the Gunners always retained a threat on the break.

And with Frank Lampard’s side failing to create any real chances of note, Arsenal struck first in the 23rd minute.

Chelsea vs Arsenal to get a score prediction for Premier League clash on FIFA 20
Chelsea vs Arsenal to get a score prediction for Premier League clash on FIFA 20

Alexandre Lacazette received the ball on the right-hand side of the area, dribbled past Antonio Rudiger, before laying the ball off to teammate Lucas Torreira, who got across Reece James and poked an effort past Kepa Azpilicueta.

The Blues ‘keeper should have done better, with Arteta’s side going into the lead through an unlikely scorer.

Arsenal made it 2-0 just before half-time, with Lacazette this time on the end of a swift attacking move, finishing well inside the area after receiving a cutback from Nicolas Pepe.

It was the Frenchman’s first Premier League goal since the start of December, and he made sure he milked it as much as possible.

In the second-half, Chelsea was still dominating possession, trying to probe the Arsenal defense in order to create chances, but to no avail.

In fact, Arsenal could have scored a third through Gabriel Martinelli, but his chip over Kepa was cleared by a Blues defender. Overall, an impressive away performance from Arteta’s Arsenal, but more problems for the Chelsea.

Full-time score: Chelsea 0-2 Arsenal

Here are the full-time match stats.

Chelsea had more possession but could only muster one shot in the entire game, as Arsenal dominated the game rather than possession.

Arsenal’s best player was Lacazette, who scored and registered an assist on the night, with Chelsea unable to contain him.

For the Blues, Jorginho was their best player, having 95% pass accuracy.

FIFA 20 predicts that although Chelsea will dominate possession, Arsenal will be by far the more dangerous of the two teams, with Lacazette putting in an excellent performance to secure an important three points.

Frank Lampard’s Blues welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea currently sitting ten points above their opponents in the Premier League table.

The Blues currently occupy the fourth spot in the table, with Chelsea holding a five-point advantage over Manchester United and Wolves, who are fifth and sixth respectively.

But after a defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday, Lampard will be keen to see his Blues side bounce back against their London rivals in what is a crunch clash for both sides and their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.

Frank Lampard’s comments on Edinson Cavani

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has suggested that the Blues could make a move to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani this month.

The Uruguayan forward has asked to leave Paris this month, amid reported interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, while PSG sporting director Leonardo confirmed that the French side had turned down a bid from Atletico Madrid.

And Lampard has not ruled out a move for Cavani before the end of the January transfer window.

“He’s a great player, I played against him and I always loved his mentality and attitude, and obviously his goal scoring record speaks for itself,” the Chelsea head coach said when asked about the 32-year-old at his pre-match press conference.

“I’m not absolutely aware of what the situation is, so we’ll see. He’s an experienced player, but so are many other players out there.

“I think we are young, and we know about the transitions. The idea of bringing in experience is something I’m certainly not absolutely looking away from.

“Because sometimes the young players need a little bit of help, and if that’s the case then that may help us.”

Timo Werner transfer decision

Chelsea has been strongly linked with a move to sign RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner this month.

The Blues are not the only club to have been linked with the German international though, with Premier League leaders Liverpool also reportedly interested in signing the 23-year-old.

According to the  Daily Mirror, Jurgen Klopp is a long-time admirer of Werner and the Reds are interested in a £60m transfer.

German outlet Bild has also claimed that Anfield would be Werner’s preferred destination if he decides to leave the Bundesliga club.

It is, however, understood that Werner will not be leaving the Bundesliga this month, with a summer move more likely for the coveted forward.

Chelsea has been sent a message by RB Leipzig over the forward’s future, after one Blues fan took to Twitter to try and suggest that Timo Werner could be on his way to Stamford Bridge, RB Leipzig moved to send a message in response.

Fresh setback for Frank Lampard amid the key departure

Chelsea and Frank Lampard are set to lose Eddie Newton in the coming days to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The 48-year-old joined Lampard’s first-team staff in the summer to link up with Lampard on his return to the club as head coach.

But now, local reports suggest that the former Chelsea midfielder, who played 214 times for the Blues between 1992 and 1999, is now set to join the Turkish Super Lig side, who are currently managed by Huseyin Cimsir.

This would be a blow to Lampard, with Newton a well-respected member of the coaching team, having spent the previous three years working with the club’s loan players in his role as a technical coach, prior to joining the first-team set up when Lampard replaced Maurizio Sarri in the summer.

Premier League News: Chelsea target makes a decision, Everton eye shock January move

Liverpool and Chelsea chase Werner

Chelsea and Liverpool have both set their sights on signing Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

The 23-year-old has struck 18 goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances so far this season and is attracting interest from across Europe.

Despite their interest, Werner is likely to stay in the Bundesliga until the summer, although he does have a desire to move to the Premier League, The Mirror report.

The German international is likely to cost around £60million.

Everton target can

Everton is lining up a sensational swoop for ex-Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

The German international is out of favour with Juventus and has made only eight Serie A appearances this season.

However, the Mirror claim Everton has joined Manchester United and Tottenham in the race for the 26-year-old.

Can is believed to be open to a move away from Juventus to ensure his place in the German squad ahead of EURO2020.

Newcastle chase Inter winger

Newcastle United could make their first signing of the January transfer window as they chase Inter Milan winger Valentino Lazaro.

The Magpies have been decimated with a host of long-term injuries and are desperate for new faces this month.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle will sign Lazaro on an initial loan, before making the transfer permanent for £20million in the summer.

After finally getting a relatively straightforward win at home last time out against Burnley, today’s late game sees us back on our travels, as we face Newcastle.

Steve Bruce has had to deal with a string of injuries, the number changes from day to day, depending on which source you get it from, but they are still in a slightly better position than they were this time last year so it is not all bad. Similar to us I suppose, we had to manage with our share of injury woes from the start of the season, on top of a transfer ban, and we must be doing so well the club has decided they do not need a transfer window after all.

Ok, I’m kidding, whilst the football is easier to watch, we are slightly worse off than this time last season, but there’s still clearly no panic buying despite our ups and downs this campaign.

We seem to be favorites for this one, which seems reasonable enough from Newcastle’s form but I agree with Frank, we would be mad to write them off.

They will be looking to Joelinton to upset us but I would be more inclined to think if Andy Carroll makes even part of this game, the fact he is gone 28 Premier League appearances without a goal would almost guarantee he would get on the score sheet today.

Manager’s Views

Going into today’s game, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce says “We have been down to the bare bones. We have had something like 12, 13 players injured all at once, out of a squad of 23 with three goalkeepers. That tells you that you are in a little bit of trouble.”

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard meanwhile, says: Every game in the Premier League remains vital and this is the same as all the others.

Even though we have good away form in general, every game brings new challenges. Going to Newcastle, I know it as a player and I know it now.

The emotion of the crowd they are a very organized team with the manager that they have. Also, the threats they have got some good results this season.

We will be taking nothing lightly or expecting anything because of our away record. We have to take this game head-on, as we have to do in these games coming up now because it is massively important we keep or focus game in game out. We certainly do not underestimate Newcastle.

Squad News

For Newcastle Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle are nursing hamstring injuries and Andy Carroll is a doubt but Jonjo Shelvey and Fabian Schar are back in training and Allan Saint-Maximin returns.

For Chelsea, Ruben Loftus Cheek Achilles, van Ginkel (ACL), Christian Pulisic adductor is out and N’Golo Kante hamstring continues to be assessed. Marcos Alonso could be in contention.

Teams

Newcastle Possible line-up: Dubravka; Hayden, Fernandez, Lascelles, Lejeune, Willems; Ritchie, Shelvey, S.Longstaff, Almiron, and Joelinton

Chelsea Possible line-up: Kepa, James, Rudiger, Zouma, Azpilicueta, Barkley, Jorginho, Kovacic, Willian, Abraham, Hudson Odoi

Other Stuff

Newcastle has taken just four points from their last eight Premier League games against Chelsea, losing the last three.

Chelsea’s 25 victories in this Premier League fixture are bettered only by 29 wins against Tottenham. Newcastle has won just once in six league matches.

Chelsea has taken 22 points away from home in the Premier League, compared to 17 points at Stamford Bridge. Twenty-five of Chelsea’s 39 league goals have come on the road.

Chelsea has kept just one away clean sheet, conceding 19 goals in their 11 games.

Issa Diop responds to Blues links

Express Sport reported earlier this month that Chelsea is weighing up a January bid for West Ham defender Issa Diop. The Frenchman has now vocalized out on rumor, which has also involved links to Tottenham and Manchester United.

“Maximum of the time, they are associates who send me screenshots to convey me: “Issa is watching”. I do not even know first.”

Then it is the transfer window, there are things that are true, others that are false. So honestly, I do not pay too much attention to it.

Timo Werner has explained that he will not be sendoff RB Leipzig this month. Express Sport recognizes that the striker is one of the terms on Frank Lampard’s select but a contract is unlikely to be followed until the summer.

Werner has now accessible the Blues hope however by claiming the Premier League is an attractive intention.

The 23-year-old told Bild, The Premier League is surely the most motivating league you have to say. There is a positive flair to watching the English league and playing there.

But numerous Germans have also been very fruitful in Spain, such as Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil.
