De Gea To Stay or Go?

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been at the centre of speculation regarding his Old Trafford future in recent months. With strong rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid not abating, the Spaniard has been left out of United’s opening games of the season, with Argentinian international Sergio Romero playing in his place. With a possible bid by United for Ajax ‘keeper Jasper Cillessen in the pipeline, if de Gea leaves, Romero has said that he is determined to fight for the no. 1 jersey at United whatever happens. Romero has backed up his fighting talk in the past by coming through a difficult spell at Monaco to star in the 2014 World Cup. De Gea, though, will be seen as a big loss by United fans if he leaves. After a difficult start at Old Trafford he has emerged as one of Europe’s best goal keepers.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is determined to fight for his place, no matter who his rivals for the No.1 spot are. The Argentina international has started each of the Red Devils’ competitive games so far this season as David de Gea continues to be sidelined pending a possible move to Real Madrid. Should the Spaniard be sold, Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen has been reported as a potential replacement but Romero is not afraid of taking on either player. “I am always prepared to fight for my career,” he told the Sunday Mirror. “It has often been that way, especially before the World Cup [in 2014]. “I did everything I could to arrive the best way at the World Cup in Brazil. Nothing was gifted. I trained a lot at Monaco and was disappointed every time their coach, Claudio Ranieri [at the time], left me out but that’s football. “I played very few games last season but thank God my Argentina team-mates, my coach Alejandro Sabella and his coaching staff gave me a lot of strength and confidence for every game.” Read more at Goal.com
