Jurgen Klopp says he is hopeful Dejan Lovren hasn’t suffered a serious injury after the Liverpool FC center-half had to be substituted in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at RB Salzburg.

The Croatia international had to be prematurely replaced for the second successive game to raise questions about Lovren’s fitness status ahead of a crunch run of fixtures for the Reds.

Lovren had to be substituted in the first half of Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend due to an issue with cramp.

The 30-year-old then had to come off in the 52nd minute in Austria as England international Joe Gomez replaced Lovren for the second successive game in all competitions.

Speaking at his post-match media conference about Lovren’s substitution, Klopp said that he was hopeful the Croatian hadn’t suffered a serious injury in the Champions League clash.

“We hope that it’s just the same as last time. He felt something and we made the decision. It’s of course not cool,” Klopp said.

“He played really well and was very important. We don’t know more at the moment. It felt similar like last time, that’s it. We have to see.”

Liverpool FC finished top of their Premier League group after the Reds were 2-0 winners against RB Salzburg on Tuesday night. The Reds broke the deadlock in the 57th minute thanks to Naby Keita’s goal before Mohamed Salah sealed the three points.
