Old Trafford scouts have reportedly eyed Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare. The 20-year-old has been likened to the Frenchman due to his physicality and rangy stature.

He was been watched by a host, who sent representatives to check on him against Valencia in the Champions League last week. Soumare’s present deal with Lille deceases in the summer and he could touch a pre-contract agreement in January.

The Red Devils spent huge in the summer bringing in a wealth of young British talent. Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire in a particular all came through the doors during a busy – and expensive – transfer window.

According to an investigation, the latest date for which Manchester United have produced financial data, the club had a pile of cash equivalents of £308 million, by far the largest in the Premier League.

This, however, precedes their acquisitions of James, Wan-Bissaka, and Maguire and it is been confirmed by the club that they paid Maguire’s £80million transfer fee upfront and half of Wan-Bissaka’s £45million fee, with a further £22.5million due on 1 July next year.

Meanwhile, as of that date, the club was on the hook for £188million of further transfer fee payments, of which £110million was due by 30 June 2020 and again excludes fees outstanding for Wan-Bissaka and James.

In return, Manchester United is due to receive only £18.3million of transfer fee payments from other clubs, a testament to their inability to generate meaningful cash through offloading players or indeed, the fact they don’t sell many players.

Of course, that £18.3million does not include however much is still owed on the departure of Romelu Lukaku, who left for Inter Milan for around £70million.

The reason the club had such a cash pile was due to its continued ability to generate money from its day-to-day operations, outside of one-off gains like player and property sales.

However, consecutive seasons in the Europa League – that is, if they fail to qualify for the 2020/21 Champions League – would trigger downgrades in their payments from certain sponsors, notably Adidas, who pay the club around £80million per season.

Gareth Bale flew to London on Monday for a conference with his agent as Real Madrid mull over letting the winger vacation in January.

The Welsh superstar jetted to the UK for a routine chat with Jonathan Barnett which is likely to have included conversation over his future. Wales worldwide is estimated to leave in the summer, but according to AS, that could be moved onward to January.

Bosses at the Bernabeu were frustrated how Bale returned to the club injured after the most recent international break and has not been involved in a match since.

They were also annoyed that the move to China was canceled, with the fall-out with Zinedine Zidane also added reason to get a move sorted as soon as possible.
