Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur may have already lost ground in the race to catch up Premier League leaders Liverpool when it comes to challenging their dominance in the future.

Jurgen Klopp has sought to cool expectations around January signing Takumi Minamino because he believes that Liverpool already has enough quality to keep ahead of their rivals.

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to keep up with the Reds and despite leading the Premier League title race the recruitment team at Anfield has already secured a deal to add more talent to their squad in the new year. Japan international Minamino will officially leave Salzburg for Merseyside in the first month of 2020 with his new team also through to the knock out stages of the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of facing Leicester City in the Premier League on Boxing Day, Klopp played down the idea of the attacking midfielder coming in to make an instant impact for the Reds.

“I would be happy even if he was only half as good as he is now,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

“He could help us and he will help us. We will see how he quick it goes, but the way he plays is not too different from what we do.”

Klopp added: “We speak every year about why a player is not in all the time there is absolutely no pressure on him coming in January.

“This team is not struggling without him. We want extra quality with him a different quality with him. He is a really good player and that’s what we got.”

While fans of Arsenal are looking to the January transfer window as a chance for their new head coach Mikel Arteta to address issues in his squad, Liverpool has no such concerns.

According to Klopp, their capture of Minamino will merely add even more options to a team already bursting with quality players such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk.

Chelsea and Tottenham, by contrast, still have holes in their starting line ups that they wish to fill, most notably at left-back and right-back, respectively.

“We will see when from we can use him and at what point we see the 100% Takumi,” said Klopp, confident that he already has players he can count on to make the difference this season.

“There is absolutely no pressure on the boy because he has so many good things that can help us.”

If Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs thought they might get a chance to close the gap on Liverpool, the Premier League leaders may have already widened the gap.
