Premier League: 3 most impressive newcomers so far

As we head into the final international break of the year I take a look at 3 fresh faces that have made strong starts to the Premier League season.

Chris Wilder Sheffield United Manager

No team has impressed me more than Sheffield United this season. I cannot stress how refreshing it has been to see a manager stick to his philosophy after being promoted trusting his team and not rolling over for Premier League clubs.

Wilder’s team currently sit 5th in the table and deserves every bit of that. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Premier League Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

It is impossible to discuss Wilder without beginning with his famous tactics a 3-4-1-2 with overlapping center backs. It is not a secret anymore but no one seems to have a legitimate answer for the tactic Spurs were the most recent team to get out-played by Wilder’s men.

Jack O’Connell and Chris Basham are the keys to this system positioning themselves outside of the wide men at times. It was best displayed in Sheffield’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

Basham went outside of Sheffield’s right-back George Baldock and delivered a superb cross for Cullum Robinson to finish. Center-backs joining the attack and being technically able is not a rarity nowadays but the freedom Sheffield gives them is unique.

At times Sheffield has looked a little stretched defensively because of it but this is where another incredible storyline comes in. Fantasy Premier League hero John Lundstram has gone from a bit-part player to a key figure in a little over a year Lundstram and his midfield partner are incredibly important to this system and fill the gaps left by the center backs.

Tammy Abraham Chelsea Striker

I could not be more thrilled for Tammy or Kevin Abraham and the way he is started this season. Okay, a big part of that is England now have a quality back-up No. 9 but this kid had his doubters and it took him all of 12 games maybe less to shake them.

With Chelsea hit with a transfer ban club legend, Frank Lampard was brought in to steady the ship which looked like no easy feat. Sure it seemed like a nice situation for the club in some ways they now had to play the kids and it seemed like a pressure-free year as Lampard would be given time to work things out.

But Chelsea is still a big club and would not want to let this ban condemn them into the middle of the table. Lampard needed someone to step up and Abraham took this challenge by the scruff of the neck.

Cries of anyone can score in the Championship came thick and fast after two Premier League games the striker was subbed on 65 minutes in the opener, and then benched for Chelsea’s game with Leicester. I saw plenty call for Oliver Giroud to be handed the starting striker role but Lampard trusted his youngster and Abraham repaid that faith.

An astonishing streak which saw Abraham score 7 goals in 3 games began away at Norwich where he showed off his scorer’s instinct with two sharp finishes. 2 more against Sheffield was followed by hat trick v Wolves Abraham has been scoring ever since and sits 2nd in the Golden Boot race trailing only Jamie Vardy.

Youri Tielemans Leicester City Midfielder

I know he played 13 times for Leicester last season but with his future in so much doubt over the summer Youri Tielemans has felt like a new signing in many ways for Leicester this season.

The Belgian was wanted by plenty in the summer transfer window but ended up picking Leicester a move which solidified an exciting midfield three in Tielemans James Maddison and Wilfred Ndidi.

After 12 games Leicester has more points than they did at the same stage in their title-winning season and if not for the quality of Liverpool and Manchester City they had probably look a good bet for another Premier League trophy.

Brendan Rodgers has deployed a high press this season and has urged his side to play with great intensity Tielemans wonderful range of passing has proved key to the success of this system.

The 22-year-old has had a hand in 6 goals in 12 games and only Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson has made more passes into the final third this season. Tielemans has 3 assists in the Premier League this season and the most of any Leicester player since his loan debut in February.

Tielemans has an eye for goal too scoring 5 times for the Foxes already he is shown he can hit them from a distance as well as time a late arrival into the box.
