Chelsea can Save Season by Reaching Final – Courtois

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois says the Stamford Bridge club need to reach the final of the Champions League or the FA Cup to rescue their season. The Blues are drawn with Paris St-Germain and Manchester City in the Champions League last 16 and FA Cup fifth-round respectively. “We face two great teams and we have to try to win those matches,” said Courtois. “The only way to rescue our season is to get the access of final of one or both competitions,” he added.

After playing 1-1 draw with Manchester United in a Premier League game on Sunday, Chelsea still exist in the bottom half of league table at 13th place, 17 points behind from 4th-placed Manchester City. “Obviously every time we don’t win in the league, and there is one game less, there is less chance to get into the top four,” the Blues number one told the club’s official website.

Chelsea are unbeaten in nine games under acting manager Guus Hiddink and they have not given up of getting a top-four spot. “We will see where we are with five-six games in a row and see whether we can get there or not,” said the Belgian International. The next game on Saturday against Newcastle United is very important where we need to get three points. We have played too many draw-games at Stamford Bridge and now the Blues’ fans deserve a win, he added.

Chelsea will visit Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain on 16th February for the first leg game of Champions League last 16 round, and then they will host Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth-round game on Sunday, 21st February. After that Paris St-Germain will come at Stamford Bridge for the second leg on 9th March. The Blues performed well in the last three or four game and they are confident to win the game in the French capital.
