Chelsea has dropped Radamel Falcao from their 25-man squad for the Champions League knock-out stages. The Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, who has been signed on loan from his country’s club Corinthians this January, replaced the 29 years old Falcao who has not played since October after a thigh injury. The Colombia international has started just one Premier League game since signing on a season-long loan from Monaco in the summer.
26 years old former AC Milan striker Pato has not performed since November as he looks to restore full fitness after a number of injuries. Chelsea acting manager Guus Hiddink has also included new signing Matt Miazga in his both Champions League and Premier League squads for rest of the season. 20 years old United States defensive player came at Chelsea on a four and half years deal from New York Red Bulls last week.
Falcao was connected with his former club Atletico Madrid to move there on the last day of January transfer window, but unsuccessful and now he has been selected in the Chelsea’s 25-man Premier League squad. Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini disclosed on Monday that 19 years old Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho will be included in his 25-man Champions League squad in the place of Samir Nasri. 28-year-old French midfielder Nasri is not able to play for at least another two months after a hamstring injury and tendon surgery in November.
Clubs which are going to perform in the knock-out stages of the Champions League were needed to provide European football’s governing body UEFA their updated squad lists by Tuesday night, but so far no changes have come in public notice regarding Arsenal’s 25-man squad. The Gunners are predicted to make one change in their squad. It looks like that new signed Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny, 23, will replace the 30-year-old French defender Mathieu Debuchy, who has been signed by Ligue 1 side Bordeaux on loan until the end of the season.
First-leg ties of Champions League last-16 round will be played on 16-17 and 23-24 this month, in which Chelsea will visit PSG on 16th Feb, whereas Arsenal will host Barcelona on 23rd and Manchester City will visit Dynamo Kiev on next day.
